Special Education
Special Education Program Goals
The purpose of the Luling Independent School District Special Education program is to ensure that all children have a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE), designed to meet their unique needs. Students attending private, public, or home school may be eligible for special education services.
Special Education Student Support
Special Education serves students with specific learning needs as identified through a referral and evaluation process in accordance with federal and state regulations. Services from birth through age two are available for student with auditory and/or visual impairments through the Texas Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) Program. ECI works with the Luling Independent School District to refer students and to ensure that timelines are met so that the student begins services on their 3rd birthday if eligible for services.
Services for eligible students begin on their third birthday, and continue for eligible students who have not reached their 22nd birthday by September 1 of the current school year.
Parents and/or teachers who are concerned about a student's progress should contact a Campus Administrator, or the Special Education Department at Central Office to consider a referral for special education.
